Ashanti fell into a niche problem. When the music industry was shifting, she and Beyonce competed for the same position. She should have stayed in the R&B slot that she was trending towards when she first debuted. Especially after the death of Aaliyah, she had the opportunity to really nail that slot (what with Brandy not cutting it either). It's a shame that newer acts like Sevyn Streeter are having more success than her what with that debut she had back in the early 2000's.
I never cared for that performance. Her weave really bothered me, but the song CIL did end careers. Still love me some Shanti. Her debut remains untouched for R&B acts.
