I'm lucky I have fairly high standards for myself tbh

But no one wants to be considered average looking it's apart of human nature. We all want o be seen as stunning whether it be by the world, people in our small town etc..... As far as why we have a higher standard of beauty well with advances in:

. makeup
. photoshop
. social media
. and surgery

It really has elevated the standards especially when things to alter your looks to achieve that perfect 10 are easier to attain with surgery/makeup. With so much advances in photoshop being able to erase every little flaw and demonstrating this false ideal most won't ever attain. Like let's look at this photo of a model years ago:



the societal attitudes were different in even some imperfections those things truly made you beautiful and human. This was an ideal any average woman could achieve but in today's industry, she would be told to lose much more weight and would have photoshopped everything including her veins. I agree with everything you said. Flawless post Since we have such a high and unnatural standard of beauty today we can't really blame people for looking at the perfectly normal picture you posted and still somehow feel disgusted with the natural body. We've become so paralyzed with all the photoshoped pictures that we believe that average = ugly.

Yeah and I think it's a marketing tactic that is getting worse with time. Why not sell this unrealistic standard on the global media. Which would pressure ppl into buying your products so you can attempt but never be able to look like our insert heavily photoshopped/made up star

I remember watching something that said "attractive" people are actually more common because people find familiar characteristics more appealing... so technically it's the attractive people that are the epitome of average while those with more unusual features are unique.

Like for me average=unnoticeable,can blend into a crowd effortlessly


And i think it also depends on the person's environment.

I remember seeing a billboard for some whitening products endorsed by naturally fair skinned people. Like why? Its more like deceptive advertising for me. (We had this culture that the more u are white skinned, the prettier u are and i hate it)
