Music* is the worst way to make money, especially today.
Look at 50 cent. His career is shorter than Eminem or Dr. Dre's, but he's richer than both of them because he invested in Vitamin Water.

even tours aren't as lucrative as straight up business. Tours grossing $100 Million end up as around $30-50 million in the pockets of the artists after subtracting the costs of the stage, moving and rebuilding it everyday, the hundreds of people involved in logistics, marketing, arena/theatre costs, etc.
