I was inspired to create this thread after reading a
Slate article talking about the sustainability and nutritional value of insects and how some restauranteurs are attempting to break the Western taboo of eating bugs. Some Mexican restaurants such as Olamey's in Washington, DC and Toloache in New York are quickly gaining the interest of adventurous foodies for serving grasshopper tacos on their menus. Examples of such delicacies below:
Bugs are considered a superfood, possessing far greater amount of nutritional value (such as high protein and low fat content) than beef, chicken, or pork. Scientists are now conducting research on how sustainable bug farming would help contain starvation, decrease the amount of greenhouse gases emitted in the atmosphere, and help with the process of recycling waste material. And some boldly predict Americans and Europeans will view insects as a delicacy in as little as 20 years.
