Black characters' humanity can often be perceived as hit or miss in movies and, until now, not one major Hollywood studio has even released a 3D animated feature starring a black character.
This is great and all, but it's starting to get the point where these achievements are so specifuc that everybody has one. Like, Dreamworks specific? The company has only been around 20 years. There are animated movies with black animated leads. Why does it matter that it is Dreamworks?

This is truly a testament to her star power, you would thing they would have gone with a well established black actress.
This is an achievement for all people of colour, not only is Tip a Black and Lead but she is being voiced by a black person.
