When Amy Winehouse covered Valerie (a sort of love song about a woman) nobody accused her of being a lesbian so I don't think it even matters to people as much as we think it would.
Because there are gender differences, some people just sing the songs, and other make them fit to their preference. I can't feel comfortable singing Barbie Girl, so i sing Barbie Boy.
Well, people do it to fit their sexual orientation.
If you like girls, you'll sing about girls and so on.
I guess I can see why some do it and if it's just a small change to fit your preference it's kinda understandable. When people do like YT covers and they change a load of lyrics just cause it's about the wrong gender though . It just comes off as really insecure.

Yes, I think this. People aren't going to crucify you for singing a song the way it was written.

when people do covers, female or male, i absolutely hate it when they change the lyrics to fit their gender. most of the time it ruins the cover & sounds awkward &kinda shows gender insecurity if ur forcing it idk
