A lot of media outlets have been criticizing Sky's video for her new song "I Blame Myself" as racist. Sky disagrees, and posted the following message on her Facebook:
Quote:
I'm deeply upset about a few things. Not only being called a racist, not only having my thoughts turned around & twisted by other but by the fact that I made this video & people have completely missed the message. This song is one of the most personal songs to me on the album & so was the video. I was putting a lot more about myself out there in this song & video than I ever have before. Even with my post,I was pretty vague about my child hood but still somewhat spoke about. Which I had never done before or felt the need to. It wasn't "a liberal white ******** defense".
Hardly a meltdown. Good for her for sticking up for herself. The video is brilliant and people are looking for something which isn't there. She grew up in an extremely multicultural family. Her brother is mixed race and she herself is half Native American. Obviously that wouldn't stop her from being a racist but it's pretty clear the girl isn't.
There's nothing racist about the video. She's using black people as a way of illustrating and conveying how she feels, misunderstood like a lot of black people, who are misunderstood, and are made out to be something they're not.
