“At the Bleachers show in Williamsburg in March, Dunham watched from the rafters with Taylor Swift, with whom Antonoff wrote the Golden Globes-nominated song “Sweeter Than Fiction.” Antonoff is a hardcore Swiftie, and he talks about her with the protectiveness and pride of an older brother. “We live in a fascinating time where there’s a weird shift in pop, and certain pop stars aren’t really resonating in the way they were,” he says. “The reason why Taylor stands above everyone else is because she’s a songwriter. She sits in rooms and she writes songs. Most importantly, they sound like her. All the other pop stars, to put it in a really simple way, they’re just not as talented.” Swift’s ability to craft her own material is what sets her apart, he believes. “Other pop stars have to go through, like, a goth phase. You can imagine the marketing meetings behind other pop stars. Whereas the meeting behind Taylor is like, ‘Write a great ****ing album,’ which she can.”
Thank you! My friends who listen to Taylor always hate on Treacherous and I don't get it. Lyrically, it's one of my favorites on Red, especially the "I'll do anything you say / if you say it with your hands" line that Taylor didn't write
If you went into it only knowing the singles, then it's totally understandable that you wouldn't have expected it to be as great as it is. In reality, it's much more acclaimed than any of the recent "pop girl" releases, bar Beyoncé and Pure Heroine, and metacritic gave it the same score as The Truth About Love.
I'd suggest checking out Speak Now, if you haven't yet. It's just as acclaimed as Red, but She wrote all of the songs completely by Herself... meaning that there's no outside influence on its lyricism, and you get a completely unfiltered look at Her life perspective through the songwriting. The other big difference is that Speak Now had one producer behind it, while Red had several producers involved... That's both a pro and a con.
I love hearing the opening notes. The rest of the song I could take or leave, but I always love hearing the first few seconds of the song when it comes up on shuffle or whatever.

I'll check out Speak Now as soon as i've taken in RED.
And yeah I only knew a few of her singles and they're not as good as the album tracks.
Girls creator Lena Dunham has been snapped visiting Taylor Swift's apartment with what appeared to be the season 4 script for her Golden Globe Award-winning drama in her hands.
Quote:
But it looks like she could now be going one step further and recruiting the blonde 24-year-old for her very own cameo in the show.
I don't know how I feel about this...

Lena sat outside Taylor's apartment in New York City for around 20 minutes, with her bare feet up on the dashboard, while on her mobile phone.
She made her wait 20 minutes before she let her in...
