Lana sold 5 million albums WW / 700k (US) before even getting a hit with Summertime Sadness. Lorde got Royals and at this point, it's safe to say she won't sell as much as Lana considering her album is only doing good in the US
So, why can't Lorde sell albums like Lana if she has a big hit?
Cause Lorde only has America like you've mentioned.
You have to have more than 1 hit to sell albums, and Lorde doesn't have that outside of the US (and probably AUS and NZ).
I think that Lana connected to everyone, at the point where everybody loves her and her personality. People care about her. Lorde hasn't connected in that way with the public, I think that's why
Not Lorde sold more Pure Heroine in US than Lana with BTD.

lana is huge in europe.... her single might not peaked high in usa but in europe they did... i dont know about lorde album...its not like she had big airplay in my country.... but lana's album is fantastic... she also came before lorde and she felt fresh when lorde came many said lana 2.0.....just because their music is not similar to your usual pop....dont forget that lana also tours WW
and to all of the people saying lorde era is bigger... maybe in usa but lana is a phenomenon in europe...
