See, most of the Pokemon types involve utilizing elements of the natural world. Water, Fire, Ground, Grass, Ice, Bug... you get the idea. But Fighting is based off of martial arts, a human invention. Now, you'd think that would narrow the scope considerably, but the Fighting types are just as diverse as any other type.

Now, obviously, you have Fighting types that embody martial arts like karate and judo (Sawk and Throh), but that's just the tip of the iceberg. You also have Medicham (tai chi), Hariyama (sumo wrestling), Hitmonchan (boxing), the Machop line (grappling)... and those are just the traditional modes of fighting. Scrafty, with his sagging pants and mohawk, is clearly meant to represent street fighting, and Hawlucha represents Lucha Libre, a 'fighting' style designed solely for entertainment and showmanship.

In short, Fighting types illuminate something truly remarkable about mankind. All around the world we've developed a wide variety of ways to approach combat. From such a seemingly narrow concept (fighting/ self defense), we've spawned a world as colorful and diverse as any natural ecosystem.
