EDIT: Actually, when you're looking at someone's legacy years into the future, it's not pointless at all. It shows their accomplishments and the things they've done. But everything is pointless in the end.
I was here,
I lived, I loved
I was here
I did, I've done
everything that I wanted and it was all I thought it would be
I would leave my mark so everyone will know -
I was here
Think of all the people who have helped come up with cures for diseases/eradicated them. They'll always be remembered for their work, and they have made the world a much better place. Even if we don't know them or their names, their work has improved the lives of many, and in a lot of cases actually SAVED lives.
Even when the planet is dead in millions of years or whenever, they'll still have had a massive impact on those who DID feel the benefits of it (even if they don't know it).
