Have you ever been cyber bullied? Do you think it's a serious issue or another reason for people to complain? Should there be laws?

Whenever the topic of cyber bullying comes up in conversation I always hear the same things like.. "Cyber bullying isn't real, just get off the internet" etc. I think people don't take it seriously because you aren't being hurt physically so you should stop being sensitive about it.

I'm mostly curious to hear from people who have dealt with it personally or know someone who's dealt with it but all input is welcome.

Edit: To be clear I'm not saying it isn't real or anything I just wanted an open convo

Cyber bullying is a joke, people do the most to be seen as victims.

Of course it's real, it happens, but it also really is a whole lot easier to avoid than physical bullying, in most cases. You can remove yourself from the situation with cyber bullying; block the offenders from social media, etc. whereas you can't exactly block somebody from punching you in the face.

In legal studies class I wrote a 13,000 word essay on cyberbullying which I spent at least 30 hours in making it and got the highest mark of all the other essays

Yes and it is serious. This group of girls got annoyed by me at school bcos I was going through depression (bcos of serious family stuff.. I can't stress the word serious enough) and said that I was too polite as well and assumed it wasn't genuine sincerity or I was plain old fake.

They wrote an open hate letter to me and insulted me in so many ways yet said they didn't bully me. I was only close to two of them so I was really pissed off when some four other random skanks joined in. They all sent me the msg at the same time via DM then posted it on tumblr. I spread it on Twitter to let everyone know how cruel they were and they ended up getting a lot of hate and getting called bullies.. Then later blamed me for everything and said I was the bully.. yet.. not once did I ask anybody to defend me. They just did.

I think it has an effect to a degree.
Cause it does make sense to just remove yourself from the negative environment I.e turning off your computer and such.

You know, if you still get off the Internet, that video or photo posted will have a social impact on you. Cyber bullying is real.

Of course it's real, and you can't escape it. Half of cyber bullying is anonymous too.

It's really obnoxious and annoying when people say that

"HAHA STFU JUST CLOSE THE COMPUTER DUMMY LOL" sometimes it's a bIT more complicated than that sweetie

Of course it's real, sometimes it's even worse than the usual bullying because you are exposed to the whole world and don't come here with those "just log off the computer" excuses since it can also affect the victim in real life.

Kids go through enough at home and at school, their safe haven to vent becomes the web and then that gets breached what do you do? Some people can't just turn off the computer and forget about it. It can also reach beyond just the internet.

I wrote a plan for an essay about the movie Avatar and my English teacher said it was the best essay plan she'd seen in ha teaching career. And she's taught at like exclusive private schools and ****.

Then I finished the essay and she told me (indirectly) that it was the best essay she'd seen in ha teaching career, and couldn't fault it.

Anyway back on topic cyber bullying is real and bullies are the worst and need to be stopped.

I think parents need to do more, after all they buy laptops, phones, tablets for their kids and just let them loose on the internet without supervision, then are quick to get self righteous when their child is being bullied.
