Gaga is not that much innovative, her music isn't and the ideas and what she stands are neither.

Her music and performances are most definitely innovative.

People like Katy and Selena Gomes(no shade but do people on here really consider her an artist) are just not interesting in any capacity. There music is run of the mill McDonalds Value Meal with a small fry. Digestible but it might give you diarrhea after a while.

It's ok to be generic during your debut to get your foot in your producers door, but when you continue to follow the same generic pattern throughout your career and rarely experiment artistically

I'll tell you why, because all artists like Katy and Selena can do is sit back and TAKE IT! Society defines them, their songs and their image, and they're left almost mind-numbingly bland because they're too afraid to take the reigns of their careers into their own hands. Their songs might get lots of spins on the radio, but they will never change the state of pop music.

Change is not always good. If people are happy and the Katy songs become soundtracks for their lives, that is way more impactful than catering to the artsy pretentious crowd. Clearly the ones pushing these arbitrary boundaries so hard just look silly to many people and suffering in sales and most importantly in your book, IMPACT.

But slay the ATRL pretentious crowd and tiny indie fanbase I guess!
