The reason people only think it's an issue in America is became of availability heuristics. What we see most often, we believe happens most often. America is the leader of the World, hence everyone sees and hears our media.

It's first, and by quite a large margin, when it comes to developed countries : 3.60 (for homocides) against 0.04 for the UK, 0.22 for France, 0.20 for Germany, 0.36 for Italy, 0 for Japan etc. Of course it's behind countries like Brazil, Columbia, Guatemala, Mexico...That's hardly anything worth celebrating or bringing up to hide the problem.
