I agree because of legal issues surrounding custody of the children, health insurance, etc. But it does seem silly to only be able to enjoy those privileges if you get married. Marriage is personal and individual to every couple. It's not like a driver's licence. There's a mix of both legality and emotions involved. So it's something that can benefit you, but if you are not wanting to get married or have any other notion against it, it is unfair to be excluded from these things because of the emotional level.
