And her father was her manager. In ways that all artists have managers. She wasn't given a career, she earnt it. Her family pooled in all their resources out of necessity. As a young black group, DC were automatically at the bottom of the food chain. They had to tour non stop to even get their names out there, because Columbia didn't really see it for them. Though that worked in their favour. Hell, Kelly even broke her foot whilst they were on tour with Christina Aguilera, because they couldnt get a dressing room with lights. And before they barely even made it, she was singled out, bullied and targeted simply for being the lead. Then after Letoya and Latavia left, she was crucified. They'd attack her character on tv, in magazines, on radio, on stage. Literally boo her and she'd perform through it and breakdown back stage. People were literally rooting for her faliure, so she worked harder and perfected her craft.

Um, Beyoncé has been working virtually non-stop since she was six years old.

Nicki worked extremely hard. She worked her ass off for years before she managed to break out into mainstream music and get recognition, I won't even delve into her childhood etc.

Jay-Z has never managed or had a hand in Beyoncé's career. Ever. Beyoncé's supporting team is the company she owns and built. People will literally go for anything so long as it supports whatever nonsense they're looking to spew.
Beyond that, experiencing financial hardship/poverty/personal adversity and hard work aren't two mutually inclusive or exclusive things.
Anyway, most people that have made it to that level have worked extremely hard. Personally, I feel like as far as sheer effort and work goes, especially as it pertains to dedication to craft and results, Beyoncé definitely takes the cake. If we're talking about ambition and maneuvering the business end as well, Madonna and J.Lo. Beyoncé has control there as well at this point, but she began as a teenager so naturally she wasn't responsible for the business end of her career until much later.

Lol at people saying Beyoncé. That chick's father had to device a pseudo-girl group built around her so that she can have all the spotlight. In turn, many of the girls' chance for fame had to be sacrificed. She also married jay-z. Most of her first singles were with him. All her life her choices have been marked by a fallback option, a safety net, and tremendous amount of support.

Of all these girls, I say Madonna and Katy. Madonna because of all the reasons mentioned above. In her first few years she was literally seen as untalented, but she fought them all despite her inability to sing.
Katy because this girl was turned down so many times; was even part of a band (matrix), which also did not work. She knows it was hard for her to get where she is, which could be the reason why her moves are calculated- because she wants to remain on top. You can tell she's ambitious.

Those artists who had it easy- a career given to them on a silver platter - tend to burn out easily, with egoes inflated (Gaga, xtina, Whitney, Justin b, Britney), while those who struggled have cooler heads and aim for a longer run (Madonna, Mariah, Katy).

Bruno. He started as the "Mini Elvis" when he was a kid, but went on making shows with his family in Hawaii every week until he got a deal with Motown. But it didn't work as Bruno at that time didn't write or had experience recording songs - his knowledge was only playing instruments (he plays 5) and performing live due to the shows he was used to do with his family - he was dropped shortly after. He then started to write, compose and produce his own songs and started selling them to other artists. At some point he was so out of cash he had to sell all of his musical instruments to pay the rent and the phone bill. He also sold insurances at that time. He composed "Billionaire" when he was in the UK making a song for Sugababes and was so broke to even buy food he wished to have billions. When he partned with Phil Lawrence they started writting for bigger names, then they got signed to Atlantic Records and could release their own stuff.

Most of them worked extremely hard to get to the point where they are now ..
But I have to mention Lady Gaga.. the reasons are obvious.

I think that pretty much artist who is known worked hard. If it was that easy to get to the top, there would be like 100000000000000000000 more of them. Of course everyone will say they fave and will find some reasons for it, but to all serious I'd say Madonna.

Katy. The amount of times she was dropped, worked on albums for years only to get them shelved, lived for years with hardly any money, had to resort to working with the Matrix which she hated, etc. And she literally came from NOTHING, her family was totally poor and living on food stamps. She'd been in the industry for almost a decade before she even got famous

Britney never had it handed to her and certainly doesn't have an inflated ego lmao.
