UMass guard Derrick Gordon has come out as the first openly gay male college basketball player in D-I history. He told his teammates on April 2, a few days after telling his parents, according to a story by Kate Fagan of espnW.com.

I would love one of these athlete public coming out stories to be a bit more casual. Something like kissing his/her significant other after a successful match without people knowing he/she was gay beforehand.
Not criticizing his choice to make it public like this though, since it has obviously brought him peace.
