They haven't changed that much, really. They add and remove scenes and change dialogue here and there but ultimately the main outcomes of plot points end up the same.

Keeping the main plot line isn't a guarantee that is not gonna get messy tho especially with ADWD, Dany's plotline and tyrion's and god knows wtf they're gonna do with tommen's plot now that they've aged him up.
