Chelsea Handler to take over Letterman at the Late Show?
According to a new report from The Wrap (via Vulture), Chelsea Handler is in early talks with CBS for a potential late-night hosting gig. This news comes shortly after David Letterman announced he will retire from The Late Show in 2015.
Handler recently announced that she would end her own show at the end of this year when her E! contract is finished, so it sounds like she's wasting no time lining up her next job. Though CBS reportedly wants Handler to consider taking Craig Ferguson's spot at The Late Late Show, she has her eye on the top Late Show prize, because nobody puts Chelsea in the 12:30 AM corner.

It'd be great to have a female in that spot!

Good she's great. She won't be able to pull off the Chelsea Lately format on CBS but it'll be great to have a strong woman stepping up into a role like that! Fingers crossed.

Good for her, I feel like the more popular networks might censor more of her comedy because of how blunt she is. E! clearly didn't care, since she's one of the few shows probably bringing in ratings

Britney should take over. It'd be cool, like late night vibes, cool, yeah.

Kathy and Chelsea aren't funny. They're just stupid.
Kathy's just a dumbed-down version of Sandra Bernhard's Without You I'm Nothing...-era schtick, and Chelsea's just dumb, blonde and drunk. No talent, no skill, no class.
If you want female comedians who can make something out of celebrity culture and mean something with it, look to Tina Fey or Sarah Silverman (Joan, though I love her, has lost her edge).

I hope she does.
Kathy and Chelsea are funny. Maybe it's not your "style" of humor personally, but I find them hilarious. Maybe my laugh is cheap.
Kathy's critical acclaim and awards are unbothered. Why are we even talking about her in this thread?
Chelsea will be an edgy replacement, but it's time for a woman!

I was hoping this would happen. Chelsea isn't for everyone, but I think she's hilarious and we desperately need a woman on big network late-night.
Her first two books >>>>>>>>>>

Tina Fey would be the female Jay Leno -- middle America would love her and the ratings would probably reflect that. It would be very interesting to see what Sarah Silverman could do with "The Late Late Show." She would be the female Craig Ferguson with all her off-the-wall weirdness.
Kathy Griffin used to be good when her comedy focused on her life and her crazy encounters with celebrities, but now her comedy is literally just telling us about the reality shows she watches. Not great, K.
And Chelsea Handler -- hoo boy. She would definitely have to change up her "style." She always comes off like she's above everyone, like she's not interested in speaking with celebrities, and not in the good way, like David Letterman used to be.

That's interesting. I was thinking the exact opposite, to be honest. I think Tina would be a lot like Letterman in terms of how she approaches celebrity - she has the same humour as him in many regards (just look at her tribute to him at the Kennedy Centre Honours). Middle America didn't seem to love 30 Rock or her ''Sarah Palin'' situation, and she doesn't seem likely to sell out her sensibilities like Leno did.
Sarah would be amazing. Not so much at the interviews, I suppose. But she could probably come up with some comedy segments to rival some of the best. Chelsea's approach to celebrity is just ''Hey, look how stupid this person is - LAUGH, BITCHES!'', whereas Letterman's was more, as Tina Fey put it in the aforementioned tribute, ''Here's some more rope''.
Kathy Griffin is an awful, unfunny harpy and I hope she goes away.

Sarah Silverman is too polarizing and off-putting for this audience. She won't work.
She flops with everything she's done.
Kathy Griffin is an Emmy and Grammy-award winning comedian, joining only Whoopi and Lily Tomlin in the history books as the only female comedians to win the Best Comedy Album Grammy.
She's not going away.

Here for this, although it'd be very different than her current show.

I'd watch this, but the format on her original show was perfect and she'd BETTER be bringing Chuy back

This sounds like a rumour. I'd be so happy if it was true, although some of you might not like her because she shades everyone, I feel that she's a great person because she gives people like Chuy a chance to work.
Also, America needs a strong independent woman in late night.
I'll miss her show because there's only E! where I live.
