I don't get your "fear" about 2 albums this year (yeah, this guy is posing, but still, the rumours are some months old). Or fear of annual albums, thirst for "full-time", "proper" (read it like: milked, squeezed) eras with commercial success (like you can't go stanning for Katy Perry to have it all... and yes, I want Robyn to break that Beatles record, but she showed she can do it... another way). Do you want her to expire completely, so "GP [and haters] will finally say "she's not there right now"? (and stop blaming her for "being rushed" (and you won't have a doubt or get convinced hearing them)?.. "2 years isn't that long" - well, then, if she had a break for 3, 4 years... how much do you want? I personally don't want her to give us No Doubt (11 years), My Bloody Valentine (22 years) or Dr. Dre (---) teas, you know...
Sometimes I have a feeling some of you pay too much attention to all the sceptics talking about "rushed" releases, "uncohesiveness", "quality of the material", "no real acclaim" and "mediocre sales" - and finally believed them. Or, at least, want to make them shut up on their own field - receiptsreceiptsreceoptsnumbersnumbersstatsgrammys universalacclaimmm. (One can't satisfy
everyone. If an artist's success was only clockage of haters, it would be the battle without a chance to win). You seek so much into reasons why she is "not succeeding" (in singing, performing, quality of music, etc, etc) or "not succeeding enough", why she "is far from legend yet", "doesn't have WOW moments instead of Umbrella" (sorry, what?) and so on... Do you realise that you can make up logical reasoning for almost anything? So, if you choose not to be satisfied with her work, you will
never be.
I wanna say... look, sometimes I can dream about super-alternative concept album, or album filled by outstanding genre & lyrics decisions (like, covering all contemporary genres, deep interesting lyrics of every song, and themes, which are completely new for her), all written and by her (and they both are gonna be successfull, covered with diamond plaques & awards, breaking any record possible) - but I do understand that nobody could do that. No one who writes their songs 100% and without any extra help (cuz such artists always follow one line), no one who co-writes (because "concept" album in its purest meaning - I mean, Pink Floyd-esque work, not popular singer's fan on ATRL trying to convince everyone that "Beyonce-Gaga-Taylor make concept ablums!!!11" - is not something made by artist considered to be "popular"). If you became Rihanna's fans somehow, you could realise what she's going to do and what she's not likely to do. If you fell in love with her somehow, I suppose, she could give you something you enjoyed. Other complaints are hot air. We're, like, spoiled.
In my humble opinion, she can give out excellent albums in short periods of time. Long break doesn't equal album quality, it doesn't even equal long album sessions. ...Like, after long breaks by Britney (Femme Fatale, BJ), Kylie, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez (Love?), damn, probably anyone, even Christina Aguilera (Bionic), even Madonna (MDNA) - we still get piece of work typical for a certain artist (fully or at some point at least) - and/or trendy... no insult, just opinion. And yeah, I understand anyone can think smth like that about Rihanna, it's a matter of taste. Still, even though different "same" issues can be found if I turned on imagination (see also - r&b/hip-hop/pop vibe), Robz is the freshest for me, genre vise. For me, Robz is the most versatile artist ever. If someone could pull of the "variant 2" of my list, that's no one else but her. If she doesn't (not because she can not, but because she doesn't need to), still, I appreciate and understand that. And I'm looking forward to continue following her path...
