I think as far as hits are concerned, yeah it's long overdue, but only because she has so many. However in saying that, I don't want her to release a greatest hits yet because she's still only 26 and has so many more hits and original material she could make. Like with Beyonce's Pepsi commercial, and the Britney Spears VMA commemorative performance, and Eminem's monster video, it was kind of justified because they'd all been in the industry for so long and they were in their 30s (or 40s for Eminem) and had been in the industry in the 90's, naughties, and teens. Therefore they kind of had a right to sit back and reflect on their careers and all they'd done.
I feel if Rihanna released a greatest hits album now (despite having so, SO many hits) it would fall flat and be a bit more like Gaga's 2013 VMA performance. Where she was reflecting on her career and "reinventing her eras" going "hey guys! remember when I did this! And this! And this!" Like yeah, woman. It was only 4 years ago. You've only been in the industry for four years.
Admittedly, Britney did release a greatest hits album when she was only 23, but that was back in 2004 when CD's were still relevant. I kind of feel like a "greatest hits" is kind of redundant in the digital age.
In case you can't tell, I'm so thirsty for new material
