Maybe it's just it's placement on the album track list, but Starlight just sounds like a pretty mediocre song to me. Like something that would've fit better on the Fearless or maybe even Speak Now record, but even then probably wouldn't really have been a stand-out song. The lyrics aren't the most poignant I've seen her do and I agree with others here that the production is off.
I love The Last Time lyrically and production-wise. I think the main problem is that her and Gary Lightbody's voices flat out don't sound as good together as her and Ed. And, unfortunately for the TLT's case, that's something we only have to wait through 3 songs in the track list to get to an example of.
Stay Stay Stay is supposed to sound immature, that's the whole point. You can here in in the lyrics, the production, etc. Taylor obviously went darker sound-wise with Red than she did with any of her previous albums, but she still has a ton of very young fans who wouldn't necessarily be able to fully appreciate the emotional depth and/or complexity of something like ATW or BA. Even 22 has more of a sarcastic vibe and more adult themes. Therefore, this song is for them.
IAD is awesome lyrically, I just find it to drag significantly for some reason. Production? Placement after 22?
And I don't know
Where I lost control
And couldn't take it any longer
Must have been somewhere between
Your smile and the way you say my name
I can't win so I give in
The more I fight it just get's stronger
You're an inconvenient kind of satisfaction
Welcome distraction, welcome distraction
How come i only heard this song today the first time?
It was supposed to be in Fearless. Glad She didn't put it in the album cause it is such a filler song.

Ahahah you praised Starlight's lyrics and called IAD cliched I'm sorry but I think you're the one who's in shock. IAD is one of Taylor's most heartfelt songs and I always feel a lump in my throat whenever I listen to it. I don't think the opening strings and melody are even remotely annoying since everyone I know loves the song. Only the delusional and the hypocrites would claim that IAD is basic
Stay Stay Stay --> The Last Time --> Holy Ground --> SBT --> The Lucky One is one of the best transition sequence in any album of hers. All are so perfect.

I honestly prefer this bunch than her sad ones. You forgot Love Story though>>>>>
What's wrong with them? Taylor shows a different colour of her voice, it's like she is whispering, i love how she sings her verse, it's the most beautiful part of The Last Time! Or do you prefer the flat Red vocals instead?
IAD is a good song, you really hear Taylor's emotion singing it
The tier one songs on Red are Treacherous, IKYWT & ATW, those are the upper songs, the second batch is composed by EHC, IAD, WANEGBT, TLT, TLO, SOG, Red, 22, HG, Starlight, the pits are Stay*3 and that Safe and Sound wannabe

She tried to deliver weak breathy vocals like She did for S&S but She failed miserably cause She sounded flat throughout the song The worst part of the song is Her terrible vocals
