Katy Perry isn't a Britney type, Rihanna is. Katy is in the same lame 104.3 realm as P!nk and Kelly Clarkson, shes just significantly more popular for some reason.

I agree that Britney had her fair share of massive haters, but only until her third era. Her first two eras Britney was huge and generated great universal appeal despite the type of music she made. Her career path is kind of similar to Lady Gaga's when you think about it except again, with more success and appeal.

It's also uncool to like Katy Perry by the way.

Even though BOMT sold a bunch, it hasn't reached 30m WW. Also, you can't compare album sales from then to now. Times have changed by a lot. Just look at Britney in 2003, who was supposedly at her peak, yet failed to surpass 9m albums WW whereas you see many artists being able to sell that much or almost that much in the newer generation.

No. Both P!nk and Kelly Clarkson are known for their singing ability. Katy can't stand there and impress with a song. Those two can given the right song. Katy and those two are nothing alike. Katy is most like Britney. But there would be NO Katy without Britney. Britney made the single female pop artist popular again.

If anything Taylor Swift is much more comparable. Katy just does not sell albums in the way britney did and has way too much radio support relative to Britney.

No. Britney was America's sweetheart and then America's obsession. Katy has never gotten the media attention that Britney has. Musically the two are very different as well. Femme Fatale is the only Britney album that sounds anything like Katy's material. I think that Katy is very popular with the GP, but I don't think she has "replaced" Britney. Katy has her own market, style, and sound.

Firstly, you are comparing different kinds of pop artists. Secondly, the trajectory andpopularity for both artists even in their prime are very different. Yeah Katy's singles perform better than most of Brit's career, but i doubt any song onTD would match the level BOMT and OIDIA are on even according to the GP.

People are failing to comprehend what I wrote. I meant Katy is now a bigger album seller than Britney in the OP and mentioned that Roar alone has sold more track equivalent albums than Britney Jean has sold albums to illustrate that point.

Obviously Katy can't match Britney's overall album sales, but compare their two recently released album sales and you'll understand what the OP meant.

Also, Britney was a media magnet for most of her career. For a good 10 - 12 years at least. The media was fascinated by her. She was the TOP Pop Star in the world for a very long time.

Katy has absolutely no media attention, despite her success. Media is not interested in her at all, she gets paid dust by the media. Just stating the obvious.
