Old song, but the conversation came up the other day when a friend was debating the song IRONIC by ALANIS MORISSETTE.

His complaint was that it was all 'Coincidence' not irony. But, just now...i looked up definitions of Irony.

Irony as an adjective;
"Marked by coincidence, Or by a curious or striking juxtaposition of events; regarded by many as a loose usage."

So...was Alanis right?

I don't think any of it is ironic. Which is what makes the song ironic.

The only thing ironic is the fact that nothing she sings about in the song is ironic.

my mom and I joke about it all the time. literally the only thing ironic is the guy who is afraid to fly, finally gets on his first plane it crashes down

Isn't irony a form of coincidence? If it's not ironic, than what is it?

The song, she's also asking, "Isn't it ironic, Don't ya think?"

Then ends it with, "And, yeah I really do think."
