A Chinese ship has most likely found the black box of MH370. They registered a ping of 37.5kHz, the frequency black boxes transmit. According to calculations it is possible the plane went down at the spot where the ping was received. They are going to do further investigation to get a 100% confirmation whether this is the black box or not

Update: The ocean is about 3 miles (or 5000m) deep where the ping has been received

There's 2 different black boxes in a plane, one records all the data from the plane such as speed, altitude ect, and the other one is a voice recorder which records the cockpits conversation for the last half hour, so if there was an emergency on board such as a fire they would know about it from the pilots conversation.

I really hope this is it because the signal is only going to last for a couple more days.

5km deep? Isn't that like the exact maximum range of the locator beacon if the sea has perfect conditions? 3km is the usual as far as I'm aware.

I'll wait on some more news outlets picking up the story before getting my hopes up.

I believe the maximum depth of the ocean in that area is 20,000 feet and the locator can detect pings down to 19,000 feet. 3 miles is about 15,000 feet.

When you think about it, it's kinda fishy but I'll wait for more news.
