The main issue seems the charter of Quebec rights. Minorities in Quebec, especially Muslim, have become increasingly demanding: men cannot go to the pool if there are Muslim women, schools have to ban pork, gyms have to separate women and men.... These demands are getting out of hand! The country was kind enough to let them in, now stop the silly demands and adapt!

As someone who lives in Montreal, the separation debate has been going on since the mid 1900's. Separation itself is complicated. It won't be happening anytime soon because they don't have the support.

In any case, the leading party in the polls (Liberals) do not support separation. It's just a big fuss about nothing tbh.

It would be so weird, Canada would be split in two pieces if that happened.

There wouldn't be any border patrol. It would probably be like the EU, so you could travel through without being stopped.

Quebec basically already is a country within a country.

But they will never be completely independent.

I doubt that this will happen and perhaps that is good for Quebec's economy though I won't lie, a part of me wants Quebec to be independent. They deserve it. They have their own language, a distinct culture, a sense of shared ethnic heritage. Their rights have been manipulated by the majority at times. So I would be happy with Quebec as a country, but I understand that my opinion is totally irrelevant as I am not Canadian. (I also think similarly about Puerto Rico, but unlike Quebec, Puerto Ricans do not have that much of an interest to become independent. They like the status quo).

My only concern is Quebec anglophones and the First Nations living there. Both of those groups would be put in an awkward position. And I have an Anglophone Quebecker friend and she is so nice. People over there are nice regardless of their language.

But I mean, Quebec handles its own immigration and have a very close relationship with France. They might as well. (And Coeur de pirate could become the Quebecois princess of pop after Celine).
