So I was thinking about something the other day. Now, I haven't researched any of this but I was just thinking about it. I want to have children but I'm scared that a) I'm not going to do a good job of raising them or b) They're going to be just the baddest mother f.ucking kids on the face of the planet.

I always hear adults saying "kids are so bad these days blah blah blah." Then, I come into the Lounge and always see articles about bad little kids doing crazy ass things, even killing themselves over video games.

Then I realized that the percentage of Americans who attend some kind of religious ceremony has dropped tremendously. Now, I am DEFINITELY not a religious person, of anything I am Agnostic. However, I feel like taking my children to church would make them behave better (if they did come out to be little demons ). Like I said, it's not that I believe in anything, it's just the morals that churches instill.

What do you all think? Do you think that the dramatic decrease in attendance of religious ceremonies has any effect on child behavior? Debate.

No. Children behavior is due to how they are brought up. So if you are a parent who allows them to do whatever they want, they'll be terrible. Spoil them, but have discipline they'll be good until teenage years where they'll want to rebel because you've always spoiled them. AKA there is no winning.

But I must say it sucks you're already determining that you'll be a terrible father, K-Fed.

LMAO. I'm not saying that. I'm just scared I would be.

You just need to teach them good and solid values. Responsability, order, love for other alive beings, respect for other people and their beliefs, etc. And always stay with them, talk with them, listen to what they have to say, not giving them everything they want just what they deserve.

Here's another concept: just don't have children. Ever.

No. Church is bad. Children are horrible these days because they get NO attention from their parents. They're put in day care or given to family for the day because parents are SELFISH. In this modern society where both parents are expected to keep working, the children suffer.

Parents should put their children first and sacrifice their own (social) lives for them. They should treat their children with respect and always explain in a mature manner (never condescend or patronize) why they can't do or have certain stuff. It's easy as long as you don't follow a path of self-gratification.

it can't be that hard actually, just make sure your kids love themselves and be happy about their life, or at least always have hope, and be proud of who they are even when they found themselves different from the majority, and be open-minded and respect other people. then i guess everything's gonna be fine

I don't think directly church, but any sort of attendance which the child takes in morals, or some sort of installed fear regarding what will happen if Lil Johnny steals, rapes, murders, "lays with farm animals", or violates rules "society"(define this wide variable how you wish) sets. Morality can be given without the presence of God.

be fairly strict when they are young, and you wont have to be strict later.

as long as you bring your children up with lots of love, respect, attention and all they will be fine. you have to find a middle ground - be flexible and set rules but dont be TOO strict or abusive. its called authoritative parenting style, and results in the most healthy and happiest kids as adults. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parenting_styles

also explain to your child why certain behaviors and rules have to be followed ...children are just very curious and do not understand until you teach it to them. by just saying ' because i said so' they are not learning anything except to fear the parents and question authority.

religion should never be pushed onto children and using the ' you'll go to hell' excuse is ineffective in my opinion, because all it does is instill fear in them. i think if anything, it causes children to rebel when they're older if parents are too strict on them. people in general just have to become more accepting and open minded and respect all individuals, and you dont have to go to church to learn all of that.

yet anything can happen in the environment that causes your kid to misbehave, no matter how good a parent you are. the whole nature vs. nurture argument holds true in every parenting situation i believe.

I absolutely agree with you, and I was lucky enough to have parents who were strict, but not TOO strict, and were always loving and caring, and not the parents that you're alluding to. For once, I will hold back on my own opinions, though, because I think they would cause a big shitstorm.

Honestly, the fact that this gem of a post got sandwiched between complete idiocy is nothing short of remarkable, and maybe even a bit disturbing.
