Winning a Grammy is a BIG deal. If your fav can't win a Grammy, then it's as if the music they make is unimportant & dull. Having a Grammy on your mantel gives you some clout in the industry. Just being a nominee shows that you are not up to par with your Grammy winning counterparts.

Plus, interest in Grammy winners is higher than Grammy nominees.


EDIT: NOT all these Katy Perry fans voting "no" because Katy isn't worthy of a Grammy. GET REAL!

Grammys don't matter to people whose faves don't have enough of them.

Yes. If you don't have any you're a flop and don't really matter to the music world.

To the extent that winning awards (usually in mainstream categories) means publicity and recognition, yeah, they matter. Who doesn't want to win AOTY or BNA - it means outlets reporting your name, more viewers knowing who you are, etc. the industry wants us to consume, and winning a Grammy helps towards that goal.

I don't personally think that they are a good indicator of musical achievement - even with their exorbitant amount of genres that they cover. Sometimes they nail it, but most of the time, something that should have won did not or was not even nominated.

Not true. Britney has only 1 but I still believe Grammys matter...

They are still the Oscars of music so yes they give you status as a musician. And the awards ceremony can certainly boost sales as Adele proved.

Artists themselves are most likely to brag about grammys than any other music award.
