It isn't racist to not be attracted to certain groups of people, or only be interested in one race. You can't help what you like.

I'm not usually attracted to some races of people, but that doesn't mean that I can't make exceptions every once in a while or be friends with them.

Here's how I see it:

Steven, a white male, has a friend who desperately wants to set him up with a friend! When asking about the girl, Steven discovers the girl is black. Steven's response is 'oh, I'm not into black girls. Can you set me up with someone else?'

Let's say Steven is shown a picture of the girl. Steven says 'oh, she's just not my type' because she, as a person (not a black woman) isn't his type.

No, I believe it's a preference. There's blacks that aren't attracted to other blacks or whites that aren't attracted to whites but it doesn't mean they're racist towards their own race. Also, I think it would be racist if they didn't want to be friends, talk to or get closed to a certain race but if they don't find the race attractive but are still able to befriend them and be cool with them then no, it's not racism.

No. If you have a type of people that you find generally attractive (e.g. blue-eyed blondes) and you don't find the same appeal when it comes to others (e.g. brunettes), that doesn't mean that from time to time there doesn't pop up a person that you feel attracted to even though, they're not normally your type. Just because we put a name on it (race), doesn't mean you're less of a person, racist or shallow for looking for something else. Condemning a whole race and not being open minded about it is a different story.

It is not racism (people shudder at that word) but it is more ignorant and insensitive. White people are privileged in that they are not boxed into stereotypes and roles based on their race and therefore are the "norm" whose supposed beauty is perpetuated as the standard and ideal. Minorities that have features of whiteness tend to be perceived as more objectively attractive based on current standards of beauty. Trends on dating sites that look at interactions and response rates between different races is disheartening---there are huge disparities and patterns that are rooted in our culture.
