Gaga a "world-class entertainer": Roseland reviews
Entertainment Weekly
Quote:
But if her Roseland show is any indication, Gaga’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Her brief set was light on high-art pretension — no Jeff Koons sculptures, no Marina Abramovic-style performance pieces — and heavy on the fundamental assets that make her a world-class entertainer. Her voice was in top form, thick and buttery on low notes and chills-inducingly clear on high ones. She played the keytar and the piano and danced in a variety of minimal costumes, all while wearing a curly blonde wig the size of a golden retriever.
Throughout the night, Gaga seemed most comfortable cracking wise behind her piano, making believe the 3,200 fans packed into the Roseland were just a handful of sozzled late-nighters at a dive bar on the Lower East Side. The audience, on the other hand, roared loudest when she pulled out thundering renditions of “Just Dance” and “Bad Romance,” songs that she pumped full of urgency despite the fact that she’s probably sung them a few thousand times in the past five years.

On stage, Lady Gaga's artistry endures.
Again, though, Lady Gaga’s music is the pretense, not the substance of her bond with her audience, which was clear Friday at Roseland Ballroom during the first night of her seven-show run there.
What she gave the faithful was easy to digest: largely bulletproof pop, swinging back and forth between brooding, panting torch songs delivered at top volume and grand-scale 1980s-style digital rock with a nightclub twist.
When coupled with the outfit changes, it was a lot to take in. But Lady Gaga grounds this sort of spectacle with her voice. She is still a fearsome singer when she chooses to be, which is to say rarely on records but often in concert.
The rooms will come and go. All Lady Gaga needs is a roof and walls to shelter her crowd. Sure, she replaced nobody, but nobody has replaced her.

Her range as a live artist was exceptionally exercised over the course of an hour, with heart-wrenching ballads such as Dope shouldering up to the hopeful strains of You and I or the rallying party cry of Just Dance.
Her turns at the piano were the points that truly anchored Gaga in the swirling din engulfing the Roseland, as Born This Way and a jazzier take on Poker Face gave way to the kind of New York swagger that can only be picked up from cutting one's teeth in the shadow of the Empire State Building. These simple moments — the ones free of difficult choreography, bizarre props or elaborate costume changes — shone amid the excess of Bad Romance and G.U.Y., and the playing field between the songs of Artpop and the hits of Lady Gaga's past finally began to level.

As Gaga took the Roseland Ballroom stage, the crowd could not stop cheering. Sporting an eccentric outfit, she accompanied herself on keyboards for an acoustic rendition of her multi-smash hit "Born This Way," proving her raw and undeniable talent.
Gaga accompanied herself on piano on "You and I," as she sported black sunglasses. Yet again she displayed her exceptional ability to belt out a song in a simple matter, proving that she is a lot more than just big productions.
She wore a yellow outfit for an acoustic rendition of "Poker Face," which contained elements on pop, rock, soul and blues. This was really neat, since she gave it a fresh feel.
She closed with a superb version of "Applause," her lead single from her ArtPop CD, where she sported a purple outfit.
Dressed in a white outfit, she delivered a performance equal in excellence to that of fellow pop superstar Madonna on this new tune, back by an all-star cast of dancers.
Overall, Lady Gaga was a pop muse tonight. She showed her New York hometown what she is made of: raw talent, great stage presence, energy and charisma. Although she performed 11 songs, they were all eclectic and they displayed different sides to her craft. She proved to all the naysayers that she is one of the hardest-working entertainers in music. For anybody that has any doubts of her vocal ability, all they need is to hear her solo versions of "Born This Way," "Poker Face" and "You and I," where she was backed solely on piano. The six outfit changes, dancing and production were a major asset to her show as well. She garnered an A+ rating.

After almost 100 years, it’s only right that the venue be given an honorable — and fabulous — discharge. So it was fitting to see Gaga begin the night with a solo rendition of “Born This Way,” adapted to include a declaration of love to the weathered West 52nd Street building.
The metallic staircases and platforms built on the main stage seemed designed to pay homage to the industrial clubs of the pre-Bloomberg era New York and Gaga duly danced like it was 1999 to “Black Jesus + Amen Fashion” and the still brilliant “Bad Romance.
Gaga channeled Elton John’s piano-clambering antics during a flamboyant version of “You And I,” gleefully revisited her synth-pop breakthrough hit “Just Dance” and busted out her best choreography on “Applause” — which remains by far the best song on her disappointing latest album “ARTPOP.”
Following an encore of new single “G.U.Y.,” Gaga took her leave. After just over an hour on stage, it felt like she was short-changing the fans, but on the occasion of her 28th birthday, Gaga’s little monsters were forgiving enough to let her clock off a little early.

It truly is an amazing show and if you have the chance try and go.
But not the NY Post praising her and then dragging her in the second to last paragraph
