I couldn't be more flamboyant myself but I feel like gays who show their muscles and their whole bodies are used to attract filthy people to the parade, an actual celebration of gay pride would erase that kind of show and feature gay teachers cops and that kind of people, but sex sells so we see what we actually see

Why should I be proud of something I can't decide.

Maybe some believe that it's stereotyping and isn't helping the cause of gay progression.
Respect everyone's opinion.

If gays remain the minority I see no problem with it. Straight pride however...

Anyway, I'm not necessarily going to hang a rainbow from my door and put a rainbow bumper sticker on my car, but I am proud to be me. I don't feel ashamed of being gay and I don't feel the need to wish it were any other way.
Ugh, the people shaming pride are the real embarrassments of the gay community.

Exactly my thoughts.
Chicago gay pride isn't stereotypical like everyone is trying to make pride events out to be, yes there are some queens but that's honestly a part of the gay community. There are tons of straight males, and females that come to pride. Gay people who hate pride or are embarrassed by it, need to stop thinking everything is about them and there image.

Pride parades are hideous and do more damage than good. Walking around half naked and bondage floats with guys chained, ass in the air getting spanked is not pride, it's disgusting.

I believe people should be proud of who they love, no matter what the sex or gender of said person is. That being said, I think it's somewhat detrimental to the equality argument to have a special event for those that don't fit the majority, and that's in respects to more than just gay pride parades. If a group of individuals wants to be equal with the majority, than they need to stop actively trying to set themselves apart from the group they claim to be equal to. I do understand that the beginnings of equality often times require being set apart to show why equality is obvious, but dragging it out by continuing separation just drags out the process of equality in my opinion. I do have respect though for those who are brave enough to show publicly that they are attracted to the same sex and/or gender, as doing this just a few decades ago could literally be a death sentence, but, as I said, I don't think this constant portrayal of pride will lead to true equality in a quick manner. Perhaps it will eventually though.

Nope, being gay isn't something I achieved or created or won, it was something I was born with, I have no reason to be proud of it.
Pride should be for something you've worked hard to achieve or earn, pride of being born how you were is what starts stuff like racism and homophobia. Everyone is born equal, there's nothing about your birth to be proud of (unless you survived against all odds or something, but that's a completely different story).
And the people trying to defend Gay Prides by saying 'Well, you obviously haven't been to one so you can't comment!!11!' need to stop and think for a moment - if even Gay people get that impression from these events, imagine the damage it does to straight peoples perception of the gay community.

Not even 5% of people in the parade are nude in Toronto. Families come out to see our parade; children watch it. It's a big deal for the city up here too.

Of course. When we are generally made to feel 'inferior' or have to hide our sexuality, we damn sure need some time to feel proud of who we are.

Ridiculous at some people not realizing that it's okay to be proud to be who you are. why do you think there are black history parades and such? Pride is not always about being accepted, or what you achieved, but just celebrating a part of who you are.

Gay pride parades have been part of the gay community for years and have played a massive role in the whole gay rights movement. Straight people should be able to accept every part of gay culture, not some watered down perception of what straight people would like to see from gay people.
This whole 'bad perception' idea reminds me of the thought that the oppressed should be responsible for being accepted, while that responsibility of acceptance should be the oppressor's. They should accept everything, gay pride parades included.

No, I know that I'm gay and I'm out to my friends at school. And when we talk about the guys we like, I simply discuss my thoughts as would any other straight girl would. I don't make light of the fact that I'm gay or let people know; I just go with it, and nobody cares.

I simply am gay. Millions of other people are gay, and it's normal. Being gay just means that I'm attracted to men, similarly to how most women are. It's not an achievement or accomplishment that I've worked for, so why should I be proud? Besides, pride can quickly lead to conceit.

None of the life you experience today would have been possible without the gay pride movement. You would never be able to "simply be" gay without it.
