So, you're implying that all dead artists are automatically more relevant than their contemporaries who are still alive. I can name 10 urban artists that passed away and are not remembered today unfortunately. Don't even get me started on artists from other genres. There are only two categories of artists that are remembered long after their death : legends, like MJ, Elvis and Whitney and upcoming artists that were epxected to become superstars just before they passed away, like Notorious B.I.G. and Aaliyah.
