What is the best Harry Potter wannabe/rip-off film?

I never thought The Chronicles of Narnia to be that? The first movie was fantastic.

The worst I'd say was Eragon. Good book, terrible movie, decent casting.

I just watched it, and it was really good! Meryl Streep was excellent.

It didn't get a sequel because it flopped (probably because people thought it would be HP clone) but it should have been a franchise. Although there are like over 10 books in the series so idk if a franchise would have been plausible.

Percy Jackson was good, but it would've been so much better if they kept it closer to the book. Like actually getting the character's ages right.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was greenlit because Disney wanted it to be their HP, but they gave up the rights when Prince Caspian didn't work out.

Obviously the Narnia books came out in the 50s, but the films were basically HP clones.

Eragon was soo bad. Even the books were awful after the first one.

i actually enjoyed reading The Golden Compass trilogy

The messed up the movie by not starting true to the ending of the first book

A shame. The movies still get decent or good grosses too. They should have went straight into The Magicians Nephew to make as much use of Tilda Swinten's fantastic White Witch. I think they pretty much entered production hell when they realized they couldn't make A Horse and His Boy without being overtly racist. Truly a different time.

His Dark Materials is one of the best book trilogies ever.

The film kind of flopped because it had a really high budget and only did well outside of the US. Plus a lot of Christians were offended by it and critics hated it, as did a lot of fans of the book.

But The Subtle Knife would have definitely made more money, it is much more exciting story.

The only one that I really felt like trying to replicate Harry Potter's success is Percy Jackson, but I actually loved the first movie, the second one is disposable and I didn't read the books to say anything else...

All of these listed tho, a Series of Unfortunate Events is a great movie!

If you just mean franchise when you say Harry Potter rip off, probably Twilight. It's terrible but it has some of the highest grossing films ever.

The Narnia books feel more dated than Chaucer.

There were rumours that A Silver Chair film is being made but I don't know if anyone would be here for it.

I liked Percy Jackson. The second one was kinda boring but the first was good
