Exactly what I've been saying for a while, why put all your eggs in a song that might end up flopping ? Her label will get mad, the GP will call her a flop and she'll have more meltdowns. This would only have made sense if it had been the lead single.
I'm glad that we're getting a new video that will probably slay, but I'm also aware of the future backfiring if it flops.

The thing is, she's going to have to face this regardless - whether it's now with G.U.Y or in future with the lead single from album #5.
On one hand, they can improve her chances with an amazing lead single and the hype a new era brings...but on the other, there's FAR more pressure that way. A whole album is riding on it and the claws will be out as everyone is perched to see if she bounces back or fails.
The blessing and curse for G.U.Y is that it's the 3rd single from an under-performing era. It's not a fresh start and it's surrounded by mess, but the pressure is considerably less and there isn't really much to lose. The GP do not register "flops" or hold it against popstars, they just clock out. The people who WILL give her a hard time would do - and are doing - so regardless.
G.U.Y is unlikely to turn things around, but it's a good tactic to work step by step toward a comeback. Keep her name out there and gradually win people over in preparation for the next album.
