Miley hasn't had a smash since BEYONCE was released in December. WTF are you talking about? BEYONCE has sold more than 3 millon copies in less than 3 months. The only thing that's come close to overshadowing that is the Frozen phenomenon.
I would also say she was the it girl in 2003 when Dangerously in Love was released. All 4 singles peaked in the top 5 in the US with the first two singles peaking at #1. in addition, both the album and lead single were at #1 at the same time in both the US and the UK, which was a feat never done before by a female artist.
Then she was the it girl again in 2008-2009 when If I Were A Boy, Single Ladies, and Halo smashed back-to-back, and you can't really deny the influence of that era. Everyone and their mother knows the singles ladies dance, and it was parodied in multiple television shows and videos seen the world over, and still is to this day.
