Upon release, "G.U.Y." received acclaim from music critics. Lipshutz wrote "Zedd's hornet's nest of production swarms Gaga's provocative commands, and the sucker-punch of the hook hammers the message home to create the first true 'ARTPOP' standout". Robert Copsey from Digital Spy praised the song's "grinding bass and darting synths" and "hypnotic chorus". Andy Gill of The Independent felt the song made sexual attraction "seem grimly denatured". MTV News' John Walker praised the track's lyrical content but was less pleased with the background music. Caryn Ganz from Rolling Stone called the song a "gothy grinder". Spin found the song to be "an ode to taking on the submissive role in a relationship". Stacy-Ann Ellis from Vibe deemed the song "almost clever".
Critically acclaimed
Btw, I'm not expecting #1 at all. Top 3 would be nice though
