Priyanka Chopra SLAMS Gay Sex Criminalization
Quote:
It's scary that living in a secular democracy we can have rulings like this. India has been the torchbearer of acceptance and tolerance for thousands of years, where diversity is not just a slogan, but a source of pride. And now we're relegating an entire community into darkness and shame? And all because of a law brought to us by foreign colonists?
People should realize that everything is connected and it's these same regressive attitudes towards homosexuality that promote patriarchy, gender inequality, violence against women, caste discrimination, Islamophobia and countless others issues tearing India apart.

And before you try it, PC supported the gays before it became trendy!

2007: Priyanka's Encounter with Gay Son of a Bitch

Flaunting her sexy curves in seductive dance moves, Priyanka Chopra gave a scintillating performance in an item number from her next film Drona.
The scene was shot with an all male dance troupe named "Son of a Bitch" at an underground club in New Jersey.
Priyanka's costume consisted of hot pants and people on the set claimed that the actor was initially apprehensive and asked director Goldie Behl to change her costume as she wasn't too comfortable 'under-dressing' with so many young, buff males around her.
But when she realized that the men dancing around her were all gay, her apprehension completely disappeared and she had a good time with her new "Bitch" friends!

2009: A lesbian role? Why not!
Priyanka Chopra's "Dostana" co-stars John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan both played gays in the film. But would she be bold enough to take on the role of a lesbian?
"Why not? I would definitely play a lesbian provided the film has a good script and the role did not exploit gays for entertainment like many films do."
If Priyanka does that, it would be a bold move, especially since very few actresses have attempted to play such roles. Should she tread that path less traveled, who would she like to be her lesbian partner?
"That’s not for me to decide. That decision has to be the filmmaker’s."

2013: Huffington Post's Philanthropists of the Year
Two of your career's most popular films, Fashion and Dostana, have been gay-centered, a topic many major Bollywood actors would shy away from. What are your thoughts on gay rights?
I'm very pro-gay rights and I've always have been. I think we're all entitled to our own opinions on issues, but we don't have the right to tell others how to live their lives. Focus on your own personal life rather than everyone else's.

2009: Priyanka promotes gay rights!
"Every individual has his or her own sexual preferences. We live in a democratic country and everyone should be free to choose who they want to be with," says the actress.
Priyanka feels the fashion industry is one of those few places that give gay people a chance to be themselves. "It allows them to express their creativity without judgement like any normal person should be able to. There are many industries which are biased towards gays. This is not called for.”
We have to give it Piggy Chops. She just killed two birds with one stone by promoting two of her films with one quote!

2008: Priyanka Chopra is happy and ‘gay’
Priyanka Chopra's film Dostana is one of the few Bollywood films that have homosexuality as its central theme. Kal Ho Naa Ho and Fashion are few films which have just touched upon the sensitive topic.
Said an excited Priyanka, “The story in Dostana is definitely very interesting. Two supposedly gay men are my best friends. As the title of the film suggests, the film is about friendship."
And Priyanka is very supportive of gays. She asked, “Why should homosexuals be looked down upon or singled out? When we walk down the road, we don't point to someone and say that he's straight so why should we point at someone and say he's gay? Sexuality is an individual preference. Living in a democratic country one should be allowed to able to make personal choices.”

Same sex love is as old as humanity. The Verdict is therefore ill informed, delusional and hypocritical. The constitution assures citizens of justice, equality and liberty. So is our constitution conditional only to heterosexuals? A historic opportunity for the world’s largest democracy has been squandered by the Supreme Court. Section 377 is a stain on all Indians, and not merely our gay populace.

Shame on India for harbouring archaic prejudices brought from another part of the world. The Supreme Court's judgment strikes at the root of our dignity. It falls foul of the principles in our Constitution.

Being educated doesn't just mean getting the best marks in school. It also means recognizing social issues and understanding how our country works. People rather follow an ancient Victorian law given to us by another country so we might as well be slaves. It's time to wake up.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion but telling someone else how to live or saying they should be punished or called criminals for quite simply following their natural instincts and choice to be happy is appalling and frightening. It brings up many connected issues, and I feel there are several issues such as rape or child marriage that need immediate attention while this is just pointless oppression.

It is not acceptable. Even animals are homosexual, everyone has the right to choose their lifestyle. It's like punishing someone for being a vegetarian or a non vegetarian. Ridiculous and unnecessary.

It's truly sad and regressive. We are getting condemned for consensual sex, while violence happens in broad daylight and no one says a word.

This is a human rights issue and the laws have to be updated accordingly. The government cannot tell someone who to worship or whom to love or how to think!

I am very disappointed by the SC verdict. There are far bigger evils in this country to crush. Rape , safety of women and children, poverty, inflation. Taking away someone's freedom is the biggest violation.

I have always asked, why is it called "homophobia"?? It's not a fear, it's just utter ignorance and disregard for people. Isn't love supposed to be a free expression?? So if two people, two individuals meaning woman-woman/ man-man/ man-woman find love, make each other happy, how does that harm anybody else? Two consenting adults mutually share a bond. It's not with the intent to harm anybody. In my opinion they are just entitled to their own little piece of happiness, so why deny them that?

It's great to see how progressive people are, but I agree with the Supreme Court's decision. Some random court judge shouldn't be allowed to take laws and throw them out. It's a slippery slope.
I agree with this:

And i must say i am so pleasantly surprised that all those indian celebs male or female support gay rights, that's how it starts moving forward, when celebs and public figures support it and raise awareness, which is very much missing in many of the other homophobic countries like Russia, and even my own country Armenia (luckily i live in Paris now and can be free and even get married)
