My former roomie use to work for MAC so I got free and discounted makeup all the time. It made it easier, but you have some you can do without and some you feel are a necessity. Yes, cosmetics are EXPENSIVE.
The only thing I consistently use every day is either lip gloss or lip stick, just depends on the ensemble laid out for the day. As for your family, it's not really about impressing others for me, it's about making yourself feel good. I was never the one with self-esteem issues, always am confident in my own skin and who I am, but that's not the case for everyone. I see no harm in putting on a cute skirt, dress, or makeup to make yourself feel "sexy" or "pretty." It's important to love yourself first and whatever makes you feel that way, I say take ahold of that and embrace it.
Must be the owner of a clean and functioning vagina.
