The Cruise Remix is also bad, but at least it did sound good on a hot summers day on Top 40 radio and had an irresistible chorus. And it sounded different than other country songs. TIHWR sounds like every other country song I've heard in the past 5 years.

The term didn't exist back then, but it's the same kind of music. Same tempo, same drum patterns. If that song was released today it would be considered EDM most definitely, considering country/folk songs like Hey Brother, hip hop/trap songs like Harlem Shake and soul/funk/disco songs like Get Lucky get considered "EDM" today....

Just because it's minimal, it doesn't mean it's not electronic dance music. Listen to all the deep house songs that chart in the UK, they're even more minimal than Don't You Want Me.

I agree with the last paragraph though. People should just call songs the actual genre they are.

I always think about "This Is How We Do" by Katy when you mention "This Is How We Roll"
