A Harford County judge ordered an 81-year-old great-grandmother to be held without bail in a case involving the woman's dogs and a missed court date.
Judge Mimi Cooper issued a bench warrant after Mary Root, 81, of Havre de Grace, failed to appear in court after a Feb. 12 hearing.
Root's family said she had medical reasons for not showing up to court. She was arrested Tuesday at her home and was held without bond. She had a bail review hearing Wednesday.
"I was so saddened by this. My mother's 81 years old, has helped anybody and everybody and loves her animals. I don't see where there's a crime in that," said Vatina Gifford, Root's daughter.
The case against Root concerns some of the dogs getting loose and running at large.
