So we're comparing Rihanna to Whitney and Elvis now Nobody cared that Whitney didnt write her own music , why? Because she was a powerhouse vocalist. They didn't care that much about Elvis' lack of songwriting either , why ? Because at least he knew how to play a few instruments and performed like a rock star. They both had saving graces , whats Rihanna's? Her ***** pat dance
I think it's because she compared picking songs for her albums that others wrote for her to picking shoes in an interview with Rolling Stone. That was my "Girl bye " moment with her.
you need to stop grasping for straws, Rihanna isn't a songwriter, and that's fine. not everyone has to be
there are 40 songs in the OP, and there are else, looks more like a sheaf.

You can figure out for yourself how much she possibly co-wrote on that song.
No shade, just saying.
That happens when you watch only first 10 seconds of video or so. There are pretty clear differences from the final version in the second part of the demo.

Which is basically destroying all this "she's just listed to get money" thing

I don't think Rihanna is a songwriter per se, but I do think she makes changes to the demos she's given and works with her favorites (Ester Dean, The-Dream, James Fauntleroy) to develop the songs she wants and convey the ideas she wants to convey. I think the only time she was heavily-involved in writing/production was Rated R and Unapologetic. Some of the songs on those albums feel too much like "Rihanna" to solely be made by other people. But I'll gladly agree that Rihanna is usually not writing the bulk of her songs- but she's never really claimed to do so? Like her name is usually at the end of the credit list for a reason
Beyond that, why would she randomly steal writing credits on songs that the average person will never hear? What does she gain from being the second or third credited writer on a few album tracks? It doesn't make sense, especially when she has practically zero writing credits from her two biggest eras. To imply that every single Rihanna writing credit in existence is fake is just absurd
took words outta my mouth

Whitney & Elvis never penned a single word for their songs and look how legendary they are.
Rather have some professional write some amazing lyrics for her than some cringe worthy kindergarten poet some artists put out.

If you are so attentive towards Rihanna's quotes, than there are many ones demonstrating "more serious approach". (check: video interviews for Rated R, NME '10, GQ '12, Complex '13 (full interview, not cover story), to name some evident. If someone here needs, I could possibly take time to point many quotes out myself).
Then, I'm not feeling like talking to you personally, but... have you ever felt like there are so many opportunities that you can't keep up, so many things left to try, that you want to manage as much as possible? That's what it all about. (the comparison could easily be menu, travelling, or, in my case, especially books & cds - and that doesn't make me "unworthy" or not creative at all or so). I think you might agree with me, but this kind of hyper-sexualized/sassy/flirty songs (like "Rude Boy", or "S&M", or... well, pick something of GGGB, Loud) are made because it's fun, for fun, to entertain, to have a good laugh, and not like opening someone's eyes on complexities of this world. And if she (releasing this type of songs occasionally) would pose like every lyric she records is ultra-personal, philosophical, has deep meaning (like some singers seem to poke...) - that would look falsely, don't you think? No playing with pathos when it's not necessary.
To the topic, I feel like it's another social media myth fueled with the fact that she doesn't have credits on each of her songs as "proof". (see it like, hit songs especially, pretty much of her credits are on songs that never became singles). Then, believing it, people face some facts and twist them like "oh, she obviously didn't contribute much", "oh, she was just written in the list" (forgetting it could be told in case of anybody, especially popular). No one wants to change their minds. It's especially understood if you don't like her or it's essential to you to "not take her seriously" (depends on what do you mean by "taking seriously").
Simple ignorance is also actual. I understood these days that people are much easier to be convinced than I thought before. Like, they told something by someone (who was told by someone told by someone who didn't clearly remember), and suddenly it becomes indisputable truth for him.
I mean... she never posed and was never posed as astonishing songwriter, even when sometimes people who work with her tell about her co-writing, she isn't into commenting this (although, she said some things at times that made me think it's just norm for her to climb into songs and change something in them, so she doesn't feel like pointing attention on that). Then what? I said that once, I'll say again, to prove someone is co-writing, we have nothing but credits, interviews. Suddenly, for my fave these "proofs" are valid, for someone I don't like they don't make sense.
Finally, I don't think Rihanna is, like, writing full songs all the time (but I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me she'd written "Mother Mary" or song like that by herself only). I'm sure she is using those methods, like, switch an arrangement and get a credit... But if we assume she's only listed as a co-writer on songs she didn't write, the choice of "fake" credits for her to list doesn't submit to any pragmatical logic (again, "songwriter" is not her image she made up once and now needs to correspond with, unlike some of her peers), it's absolutely random. Or the only logic here is authenticity.
She make tweak some things in the studio, but she doesn't actively write every song she records (or songs for other people) like Katy, Gaga, and Ke$ha do.
