She's had success this era. It hasn't been the greatest but it certainly isn't a complete flop and a downfall. I just think that Gaga became a bit boring and although unpredictable, that in itself was predictable and what she actually did was a bit too far in the "I'm so artistic" department. There was nothing interesting about ARTPOP. Basically the times have changed and Gaga hasn't. I think if she would have just released ARTPOP without all the fanfare and overhyping and Gaga-isms it maybe would have been more successful, but it definitely wouldn't have been dragged so much.

we have to beging with the fact that DANCE music isn't really on top anymore, there will still be some #1 dance songs every now and then, but they must come from huge stars + a generic catchy dance song + the right timing, but, now rock ballads, ballads, poppy r&b influenced songs and exprimental mid-tepo pop songs are really the ones that aer topping the business right now.
Gaga came out with a very strongly EDM influenced album, almost all the songs are culb-bangers, and she already came from a "loud" album like BTW was, so i think people were kind of expecting different music from her(a bit of variety)
but now her Discography can be summed as
The Fame: Dance, Pop, Electronic
The Fame Monster: Dance, Trance, Pop, Electronic
Born This Way: Dance, Rock, Pop, Trance, Electronic
ARTPOP: Electronic, Dance, Pop
i think she has fallen into a bit of a musicall hole, she's not evolving and that doesn't mean being generic and going with the flow, that means showing all of your capacities as a singer songwriter,
i don't think anyone expects gaga to come with a Piano ballad album but i ws expecting more organic pop songs from her, and that didn't happen
