But that's such a minimal part of the world?
Most of the homeless are typically in cars. If they're on the streets, they're almost ALWAYS in metropolitan areas (who have shelters and soup kitchens).
Furthermore, the United States could never get cold enough for someone to die of exposure. How cold did NYC get this year? -11 C?
Furthermore, most of the states, especially to the south, is warm. The homeless are very unlikely to freeze to death, and most can find soup kitchens.
Now I understand prejudices against the homeless, and there are of course systematic feelings of contempt towards the poor. That being said, the homeless in the United States have it very easy. Furthermore, they're more than able to work low-paying jobs that many migrant or illegal workers will work. Isn't that what the Americans want? More jobs going to Americans?
Now of course there's the group that have mental illnesses, and that's unfortunate. Maybe if your country were a little less greedy, and actually taxed their citizens, there would be programs in place to rehabilitate these homeless.
So for now what we've got is a small chunk of homeless who are mentally ill (and can't get help because there are minimal government programs) and we've got a larger chunk who just aren't working.
I just think there's something to be said.
