In Canada, specifically in my city, there's a rumour that bus drivers of MiWay transportation make at least $25-30 an hour, which can translate to $60,000 to almost $100,000.
I believe GO bus drivers make a lot more too.
One of my college buddies said that his friend got hired by the TTC for $75,000 as a software developer. I guess I could use this as a ballpark to determine how much the rest of the TTC is making. And it's a lot.
Honestly bus drivers, at least in my city, deserves all the money they earn because of the tough job they do. There was this one time I rode this bus on way to college, and on our first stop over, the bus driver had to let us all out of the bus because the rear brakes are smoking hot and on the verge of flaring into flames. We ended up transferring to a new bus instead. Because of this, I started appreciating my bus drivers more as well as the system they have that is so organized. I realize how much they do care for us and our safety.
Today as well, in the middle of the day we had a major snow storm that forced our entire campus to shutdown because the weather was too volatile. As a result, literally the entire campus packed and perched in the bus lanes like crazy. Luckily the GO system were so organized that they had an extra bus or two to accomodate everyone in the line in such a short time, and I'm so grateful for that.
I however, feel that they should also deserve more respect because they constantly deal with terrible people who harass them daily. I just wish we should all respect our bus drivers more.
Hope you guys can chime in on a conversation.
