As of midnight tonight (15 minutes ago/March 13th) the UK now legally recognizes same-sex marriages!
The first ceremonies are set to take place on March 29th but couples who already got married in different countries where it's legal, will now legally be recognized as married in the UK.
A British lesbian couple will be one of the first in the country to be recognised as legally married later tonight.
Sue Wilkinson and Celia Kitzinger, 60 and 57, married in Canada in 2003, and have fought a long battle to have their marriage recognised in the UK. At one minute past midnight tonight, as part of the same-sex marriage act comes into effect, they will be one of the first British couples to be recognised as legally married.
