Rihanna is clearly in the top echelon of commercial pop stars, but for some reason her first week sales are more like Kesha or a Disney chanel star. Even tier 2 pop star nicki minaj has outsold her first week.

I think it has to do with her constant change in image/music direction. Her fans can never become die hard stans because she is always doing something different for her next era which confuses them. Girls like Katy, Bey, and Taylor will serve you the same tea every era and because of this they get to keep the old fans and continue building up new ones so that they can slay first week.

Would you rather debut with 400k and fail to go platinum or debut with 200k and go multiplatinum? Why does everyone act like the first week debut is the end all be all to an album's success?

21 debuted with like 300k and then went on to slay every follicle of hair on all of our fave's scalp. Why don't you girls get it

She isn't an albums artist. People casually listen to Rihanna and most people by now knows she doesn't have much to offer besides a few singles here and there (which more than likely will sound like what's already on the radio/ nothing trail-blazing or unique in the slightest) that'll burn out in a few months.

Im not saying Rih is a singles artist cause she can clearly push an album to platnum with ease, but it is odd that she can't sell big first week, even tho she debuted in a era where it was common to sell 500k.

She doesn't make a body of work that people would be excited about upon release, she makes quick lil' singles and moves on to the next, burns out and releases a set of songs with more quick lil' singles.

Anyway, having 6 consecutive platinum albums, more than any other pop girl atm, is huge. And if she took more breaks, she would sell even more. Loud sold 6 Million in one calendar year tho with an album release a year after, when will your non Adele/Tay faves?
