The big promo push for Lena Dunham's hosting of SNL that included her appearing on NBC's Today and Late Night did not pay off, even with Girls star displaying some of her signature nudity. The Dunham-hosted SNL averaged a 4.1 household rating in the metered markets and a 2.1 in adults 18-49 in the markets. That was -11% in households and -19% in 18-49. These are SNL's second-lowest results of the season.
The ratings for Dunham's HBO series Girls continue to shrink in season three, and they never were impressive in the first place. Now, the weekend's new SNL featuring Dunham drew lousy ratings despite plenty of hype. The media narrative tells us Dunham is the voice of her generation, a whip-smart writer and performer who speaks for millions. The reality, alas, is dramatically different.

They say she's the voice of a generation because she doesn't look like a supermodel, but I don't feel like that should be a reason to crown someone with such a title
Stop trying to make Lena Dunham happen. She's not going to happen.
This. The woman sucks super Monkey Balls, when all else fails she takes her clothes off, she's like the Miley Cyrus of TV, except Miley is actually good at her craft.
Anyway it still stands as good rating compared to some of last season ... and Lena is not a superstar, she's still a niche actress that only cable people know.
Season 3 ratings are stable compared to season 2, metacritics scores are high.
