I'm so disappointed in Patrick. That's your boss! Grow a spine and stick to your guns. He lets everyone shape his reality, instead of living his own life (his mom, Augustin, Kevin and even Richie).
Now, I foresee Kevin treating Patrick with disrespect and taking his anger out on him at work now that he's bedded him. It won't end well. Patrick will probably have to leave that job when all is said and done.
Richie better not be there to console Patrick when all this blows up in his face. He's too good for all of this.

yass, you better DRAG Kevin for FILTH!
Richie is by far the best character in the whole show than Patrick than Dom than Frank and in the end Augustin who is just a screw up and doesn't deserve anything good right now!

Guys, imagine real life, if you'd be in Patrick's place, you couldn't resist the moment, because, well, it's not like they had no chemistry before and what if Kevin turns out to be Patrick's love of life and vice versa, you know?
I think it was childish of Richie not to talk about the problems when there is an opportunity given, ESPECIALLY if the other side is coming forward first.

Where I come from, pato means duck AND gay.
Anyway, the finale was kinda boring? bad? idk. Pretty disappointed. Patrick does not deserve King Richie. Dom is the cutest 40 year old. Augustine is such a lame cliché, I kinda wanted him to die but oh well.

Can we make a petition to have Richie as the lead character.
Patrick is vile.

This. Patrick was not coerced into anything. He was obviously horny and was clearly at a very indecisive point in his life and needs to mature. He could have said no!

I get people being annoyed with Patrick and his decisions, but he is an emotionally immature guy and his identity seems quite undeveloped as an adult. This show has done a good job of showing what it is actually like to be in that place in the gay world. The problem is that what many gay guys would want/expect from this type of show is going to differ wildly and there is no way to make everyone happy. Either there is going to be too much sex or not enough. There are going to be too many unlikable characters that make gay men look bad or too many dull characters that aren't realistic enough in the gay scope. In that respect, they were kind of set up to cause such polar opposite reactions before shooting the first frame.
One thing I think this show has done so far, which shows like QAF failed miserably at, is presenting characters that are gay and realistic, not caricatures of what people think being gay is. Sure, there are a couple of vile/borderline sociopathic characters, but that is because people like absolutely exist in the world, gay or otherwise. And yes there are some questionable decisions made regarding sex and relationships by some of these characters, but they are actually decisions that face a lot of gays in these same positions and are appropriately representative of the maturity levels of some of these characters at that point in time in their personal journeys. In regard to the pointed focus on their relationships over careers or family lives, this is a short season with 30-minute episodes (that up until recently was not guaranteed a second season) and relationships seem to be at the heart of the show, so naturally they'd spend their first season trying to establish this. I can imagine there are plenty of expansive places they can go next season. In the end though, these guys are more realistic to me than the caricatures that are at the forefront of shows like Will & Grace and Modern Family, and I personally appreciate that.

Not you shading QaF and W&G like that. Especially calling all the QaF characters caricatures. Only a few were and even the ones that were were well developed 3 dimensional characters.
W&G might have had less complex characterization, but it was still a groundbreaking step toward acceptance of gays to have a show like that do so well.
I wish people could comment on this show without taking a **** on some of the most undeniably important shows in gay history.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The show has probably been the most accurate portrayal of queers that I've seen.
They've tried to make it as tasteful as possible without alienating people. It just works.
Not to completely disregard the shows that have come before it either - as they have definitely paved the way for a show like this to even exist.

I'm not denying their impact, but I watched QAF for the first 3 seasons and the writing is what made these characters seem so over the top and irksome. I couldn't get emotionally invested in any of them and wasn't thrilled with how they handled a lot of the subject matter because it didn't even seem like the writers took it seriously. While W&G is funny, it was clearly not made with the intention of representing gays on a relatable level; it was made with the leads written to reflect the flamboyant personalities that are ever-entertaining and good for a laugh. My point is that a proper drama that paints gay men in a more accessible light is refreshing right now for me. Doesn't change the fact that a show like W&G opened the doors for gays to be prominently featured on television, but that did it in a way that was heavily based on the comic relief aspect of having a "fun gay friend" around who was inoffensive to the GP. It's nice to see the evolution now where shows don't have to rely on any type of stereotypical humor to write for gay characters and instead they can just be taken seriously.

Queer As Folk was very superficial when it came to relationships and sex, but it did have some SERIOUS issues in it that needed awareness, like Justin's gay-bashing or the club's explosion oh and Michael's mom was so flawless
Will & Grace will forever be iconic. It's a light hearted comedy that didn't need to have DRAMA and depth anyways.
I love it and it's my favorite comedy tv show, for me even better than Friends
Looking is like inbetween these 2 imo

My point exactly. I think they have kept it tasteful by HBO standards, but definitely haven't presented anything in a way that is absolutely offputting to someone who is straight that might watch Girls, for example. The other shows definitely paved the way for this to even be possible, but ultimately I think that kind of 3-dimensional characterization is more of a progressive product of the times we are in where it's not out of the norm to ask people to view a gay man not just as some loud, flamboyant spirit who is there for a laugh.

I did particularly think the gay-bashing was handled well on the show, at least in a very effective way. But yeah, more often than not it was heavy on the superficiality in regard to the relationships for me and relied very heavily on a "Skin-emax" style approach to sex. It was a gay show geared very much towards a gay audience, while I think this show is a bit more accessible.

Thank you! I really don't see how anyone could be team Kevin. He's in a relationship and knows Patrick is in one. And he lured Patrick there with the intention to sleep with him. Granted Patrick had a choice. He made his bed and he'll have to lie in it as well. But how anyone can be team Kevin is beyond me.
