I'd actually say a GREAT all-around soprano is not that common either. Most pop girls are mezzos, or amateurish light sopranos who scream to make their tone bigger. Ariana and Leona have great head/falsetto registers, but no chest belts to speak of. There are no sopranos around today who have great head voices and upper belting capacity like Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston, peak Mariah, Lisa Fischer or Lara Fabian, all of whom ended their primes in the 90s.
That said, yeah, the last time we had a female contralto on the radio was probably Cher with "Believe" in the late 90s (

). Other than that, we had a couple of dark-ish mezos like Amy Winehouse (artist of 2007 imo) and Adele, Brandy on the R&B charts in the early 2000s too
As male voices go, idk. It seems Baritone/Bass is only really used in classical music/some Broadway (not that familiar with the latter though). My guess is the lyrical content and overall sound of modern popular music just don't seem to mesh well with that voice type.
