A flop is a song that fails to chart anywhere.

Don't ask members here because anything that isn't 3x platinum is a flop

A "flop" in music is an album or song that is believed to sell/perform below an artist's particular standard due to the first single being horrible, little or no promotion, and/or another artist overshadowing them. For example, Christina Aguilera had one of the biggest selling albums ever in 1999 and her second and third albums also did very well. Then Not Myself Tonight was released and everything went downhill. Bionic sold I think 73000 copies and eventually her tour was cancelled. Then Lotus was on its way and everyone was hoping for it to do better than Bionic and it did even worse, eventually leading to a second cancellation of her tour. Furthermore, bionic was released on the same week as the eclipse soundtrack, and then Lotus was released the same DAY as Lana Del Rey's album, One Direction's album and the Breaking Dawn Soundtrack. And then in the UK it was released on the same day as Unapologetic and The Re Up. Plus Your Body's terrible performance (even though it's not really a bad song imo) led to Christina Aguilera's inevitable flop. Other examples of flop artists are Keri Hilson, Kreayshawn, Azealia Banks (due to them all being on major record labels). Flop albums include Britney Jean, ARTPOP, Born This Way (messiest era in history, except I think ARTPOP may break that record in the near future). You get the idea.

In a few cases, a flop could also be due to an artist trying to do something different from what they normally do and being criticized for it for no reason. A flop doesnt necessarily have a direct connotation to a "bad" album. Flops normally are associated with performance and sales rather than quality (except for crazy stans who think just because an artist flops that that person's life is ending)

No one on this site knows the definition because Grammy winners have been called flops on this site. Look it up in the dictionary or Google it.

Drunk in Love peaked @ #2 on Billboard and is still huge, Team is slaying in the US, CRTFY has been top 5 worldwide since its release and The Way is a multi-platinum top 10 single, away you go.

You just forgot that "The Way" sold more than 1 million copies in the USA already, a top ten hit, Drunk In Love peaked at #2, And just because "Team" is underperforming badly in Asia and having moderate success in Europe, dont forget that peaked at #6 on the US, hit in Oceania and North America. Just stop.

Do you mean synonym? The fact that you didn't know that word: that's alarming. Two things you should do before you attempt to be rude:
1) Check your spelling. It's hard to insult someone when your spelling and grammar are repulsive (look it up )
2) Do not be ignorant. Just because you know it, doesn't mean the entire universe knows it. There is also something called "context." Have you heard of that word before? If not, feel free to use a dictionary, and see the quoted post below. Thanks .
